how to learn sign
How long does it take to learn sign langauage?

I’m thinking about learning it just for the hell of it, and I was wondering how long it would take. I know it’s different from learning, say, Italian (which I also tried, but found it was too hard because it was so different from English)… but this might be different because it’s just visually corresponding with verbal English words. Anybody have any insight on this?

t doesn’t take long to learn the letters for ASL (American sign language) what takes time is learning the signs for the different words instead of having to spell out each word. there is a very good program on PBS in my are at 10:30 a.m. (CDT) called signing time, it is a good program for leaning simple word signing. it’s intended for children, but my daughter-in- law (whose 26 ) and i watch it faithfully with my grand kids ages 3 &7.

i’s not nearly as difficult as learning a foreign language but your not going to learn everything overnight either, and if you don’t practice what your learned you’ll lose it.

i’s a lot of fun, i started learning in high school as i used to sign at the church, but have used it in years.
was able to assist a customr at the tax office years later because i could stll remeber my letters but it took a long time because i didn’t know enough signing words,
also whem i wored ems i was able to assist an injured deaf- mute patient with the little i remembered.

it’a a good feeling to be able to help
